Fnac Qatar Reinforces Its Commitment to Culture and Francophonie at the 35th Doha International Book Fair
  • In partnership with the Embassy of France in Qatar and the French Institute of Qatar

Doha, Qatar - Jun 06, 2026: Fnac Qatar once again participated in the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF), held from 14 to 23 May 2026 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to culture, literacy, education, and intellectual exchange in Qatar. Organized in partnership with the Embassy of France in Qatar and the French Institute of Qatar (IFQ), the participation reflects the strength of Fnac Qatar's longstanding relationship with both entities and their collective dedication to promoting the French language and culture within the local community.

Recognized as one of the region's leading cultural gatherings, the Doha International Book Fair once again attracted visitors, readers and publishers from both within Qatar and abroad, reinforcing Qatar's growing reputation as a regional destination for literature, the arts and dialogue, while further enhancing its international touristic appeal.

Commenting on the occasion, His Excellency Arnaud Pescheux, Ambassador of France to Qatar, said: 'France was once again present at the Doha Book Fair 2026, one of the most important book fairs in the region. Our stand, instantly recognizable by its Eiffel Tower, was honoured by the visit of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.'

The Doha Book Fair was a privileged moment of exchange and dialogue between cultures. It also provided an opportunity to promote French publishing and authors in Qatar, in close collaboration with its longstanding partner, Fnac Qatar. In these difficult times for the international community, this cultural moment, proposed by the Qatari authorities and to which France was proud to contribute, brought people together rather than dividing them, and promoted dialogue rather than confrontation,' he added.

Mr. Bader Al-Darwish, Chairman and Managing Director of Darwish Holding, also commented: 'The Doha International Book Fair continues to play a pivotal role in enriching Qatar's cultural landscape and promoting meaningful dialogue through literature, education and the arts. Culture has always been deeply rooted in Fnac Qatar's DNA, and we are proud to once again take part in this important event alongside our valued partners at the Embassy of France in Qatar and the French Institute of Qatar, further reaffirming our commitment to the Doha International Book Fair for years to come.'

'We extend our sincere appreciation to the organizers of this remarkable event, whose continuous efforts have transformed the exhibition into one of the region's leading events, attracting cultural enthusiasts from within Qatar and abroad alike. Such initiatives continue to reinforce Qatar's standing as a regional hub for the arts, literature and dialogue, while also supporting the country's growing tourism sector and international presence,' he added.

Committed to the event since the introduction of the Fnac concept to Qatar back in 2014 — a year before the store officially opened its doors — Fnac Qatar has continuously supported the Doha International Book Fair as a key cultural platform in the country, facilitating enriching experiences for readers, students, families, and Francophone enthusiasts alike.

This year, visitors were welcomed into a completely revamped pavilion concept, designed to offer a more immersive and inviting atmosphere. Dressed in the iconic blue, white, and red colours of France, the pavilion features a refreshed interpretation of the Eiffel Tower monument, now integrated into one of its walls, alongside illustrations celebrating some of France's most renowned landmarks.

The pavilion also included a dedicated section for the French Institute of Qatar, where visitors interested in learning French and embracing Francophone culture had the opportunity to discover and register for the institute's various courses and programs. Visitors to the pavilion were presented with a wide selection of the latest French-language releases across various genres, as well as a curated collection of titles in English and Arabic, catering to readers of all ages and interests.

Throughout the exhibition, the pavilion hosted a rich calendar of engaging activities celebrating literature, creativity and artistic exchange. In collaboration with its partners, the Embassy of France in Qatar and the French Institute of Qatar, Fnac Qatar welcomed renowned Qatari filmmaker Mahdi Ali Ali, who presented his work as the scriptwriter behind the new series project, 'Un Qatari à Paris'.

Continuing a tradition established over the years, the French pavilion welcomed students from 20 classes at leading schools teaching French in Qatar for a series of workshops led by renowned French author and illustrator Marie Poirier, offering them an enriching educational and interactive experience

Extending the program beyond the French pavilion, Fnac Qatar, in partnership with the French Institute of Qatar, also hosted Marie Poirier for a special Meet & Greet session at Fnac in Lagoona Mall, offering the wider community an opportunity to connect with the artist, explore her work, and take part in a book-signing session.

Fnac Qatar, the Embassy of France in Qatar, and the French Institute of Qatar thanked visitors of all ages and backgrounds who visited the pavilion at the Doha International Book Fair and experienced the diverse range of books, activities, workshops, and experiences prepared for this year's edition.
