Qatar, 10 December 2020 – Fenix, the Middle East’s leading e-scooter operator, has entered Qatar as a pioneering licensed micromobility solution to officially launch in the state.
In coordination with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Fenix is starting operations in key areas across Doha that are commuter friendly, including West Bay, West Bay Lagoon, Onaiza and Legtaifiya.
Jaideep Dhanoa, Co-Founder and CEO of Fenix, said:
“We created Fenix with a mission to unleash urban potential and propel communities forward. Fenix is committed to Qatar and the Middle East region – to transform the way cities move and to ignite impactful commerce. We want mobility to be easier, cheaper, and quite simply redesigned, so we can all reach our potential. The 20th century model of cities built around cars has gone as far as it can go. A fundamental shift to building cities for people does not require more cars and more roads, but more innovative and free navigation. These are universal needs around the world and Qatar is no different in our need for affordable, convenient mobility options. Increasing mobility connectivity creates a more productive, inclusive economy and facilitates local commerce in our communities.”
IQ Sayed, Co-Founder and CTO of Fenix, said:
“We are confident that our ground-breaking new commuting solution is going to revolutionize the transportation scene in Qatar. Fenix is not only an incredibly convenient and cost-effective transportation service, but also one that serves as a mobility facilitator, acting to improve the urban environment, decongest the roads and help make the cities more sustainable. Fenix e-scooters will offer a safe, enjoyable and liberating experience to explore Qatar and complement Doha’s public transportation network.”
Fenix e-scooters are purpose-built for continuous shared use. Designed with safety elements at the core, the vehicles boast many outstanding features including large wheels, great suspension, in addition to the industry’s best braking system and long battery life with batteries that can be swappable on-site, contributing to reducing carbon emissions. Every Fenix ride is insured, with personal accident, third-party liability, and product liability insurance.
Within the COVID-19 pandemic context, Fenix e-scooters is the safest solution for shared transportation in Doha. Riders across the globe have turned to and embraced micromobility during the pandemic given the vehicles are outdoors in open space with natural social distancing. Furthermore, Fenix has introduced the world’s first micromobility vehicle with an integrated hand sanitization pack, giving the rider full control and comfort for a sanitized, COVID-free experience. In addition, all vehicles undergo a deep sanitization while being recharged, before being re-deployed in the city.
The Fenix service offers visitors and residents the opportunity to experience their pioneering e-scooters through the user-friendly Fenix mobile application where they can easily ‘unlock’ the e-scooters and manage their rides. Fenix provides clear in-app safety instructions and local guidelines on how to use the vehicles legally and responsibly.
The App is available in both English and Arabic languages, and allows users to unlock, pay and ride with a base fare of QAR 3 to unlock the e-scooter followed by QAR 1 per minute of use. Offering a greater inclusive transportation option in Qatar, frequent users can sign up for value saving monthly packages with up to 70% off. The Fenix app includes safety instructions, navigational tips, guidelines, online and safe payment options, tutorials and more.
Fenix will facilitate the movement of residents in Doha, incentivizing people to use on-demand mobility services rather than owning and using cars, while saving parking spaces, time and reducing costs and carbon footprint. Doha riders will enjoy smart weekend rides and commuting across busy streets with utmost convenience.
Fenix works hard to ensure that its e-scooters are properly parked and is testing incentives for responsible use in and across municipalities. To ensure reliability and maximum availability, Fenix conducts extensive quality control maintenance checks to ensure its fleet of vehicles are safely and reliably available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and all year round.
Furthermore, Fenix will host a series of ‘Safety Academy’ sessions in Qatar, which serves to educate users about the safe and effective use of e-scooters. Fenix will continue to invest in educating users to adhere to safety precautions, such as driving safely and only on cycle paths, wide sidewalks and minor roads, and where and how to park the e-scooters in a responsible way that doesn’t impair pedestrian access, roads or building entrances.
