Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som Celebrates Qatar National Day By Shedding Light on Qatar's Unique Ecological Heritage

The region’s largest wellness resort advocates for personal well-being to go hand-in-hand with the well-being of our environment, delivering on this pledge through leveraging Qatar’s distinct biodiversity and ecosystem throughout all its offering.

Doha, Qatar – 16 December 2021: Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som, the region’s largest wellness resort and the world's first to feature Traditional Arabic & Islamic Medicine (TAIM) and holistic wellness, raises awareness of the distinctive biodiversity of Qatar, as part of commemorating Qatar National Day.

Zulal Wellness Resort is passionate about giving guests the chance to immerse themselves in nature as part of their wellness experience, eager to share its commitment towards protecting the natural environment as well as encouraging personal and family well-being.

Nestled in an exclusive private coastal location at the northernmost tip of Qatar, surrounded by the Arabian Gulf, Zulal Wellness Resort resort is designed in harmony with its surroundings, welcoming guests to experience Qatar’s ecosystem where mangroves, Hammada desert, and rocky habitats used across its unique landscape designs.

The location naming at Zulal has a botanical route highlighting the importance and co-dependence between water and plants. Consequently, each area at the resort holds key plant names from Qatar’s flora ecosystem. The selections of plants are based on their individual health benefits to promote the concept of wellness through nature. Offerings for the kids also highlight both fauna and flora native to Qatar.

Whether looking out the window or walking through the pathways of Zulal, the resort is surrounded by lush gardens of “Sidra” trees and lapped by crystal clear waters of the Arabian Gulf, all of which are primal ingredients of the Zulal wellness journey.

To better blend with its coastal desert setting, Zulal utilises salt-tolerant and local plants such as the Avicennia Marina, one of the largest and oldest mangrove species engaging with the local community to raise awareness of these unique ecosystems. Qatar is one of the Middle East’s conservatory landscapes for these unique trees, and Zulal is committed to the preservation of these mangrove environments.

Zulal Wellness Resort has also formulated an expansive menu of services and products that showcase the brilliant effects of Qatar’s local treasures. Zulal has infused locally-sourced ingredients into its signature products and treatments including herbs that are well-known to local and regional communities such as the Sidr tree, an iconic symbol of Qatar’s heritage, and other newly-discovered aromatic plants such as the “Arar” plant (Pulicaria crispa) from north of Qatar, which has a very distinctive aroma that is the signature aroma for Zulal.

The creative process behind the creation of these products involves aromatic plants that are infused to create unique scents that will instantly evoke certain memories and emotions and uplift the senses. Diffuser blends have also been created for guest rooms, treatment rooms and the main areas of the resort to create the ultimate multisensory experience. The signature aromatic range of Zulal products encompasses blends with unique Arabic scents, such as the “Desert Mistique” blend, which evokes the unique earthy scent of the desert after rain.

Qatar’s flora and fauna blend is created in Zulal’s gardens, including the Garden of Nourishment, Garden of Understanding, Garden of Contemplation, Garden of Wellbeing and Garden of Essence. All of these gardens have different types of herbs, trees and flowers that are used for medicinal purposes, and utilized as part of TAIM practices and are iconic symbols of the country’s heritage.

Amongst those herbs, guests can find the Spanish Jasmine, used for the treatment of liver disease, cancer, ringworm and tapeworm; Bermuda Grass known for its use for diabetes and blood disorders, Castor used in the treatment of abdominal disorders, arthritis, chronic headache and insomnia; Neem Tree to treat skin disorders and reduce blood sugar; and Acacia Tree to help stop bleeding and for skin treatment amongst many other herbs used at Zulal.

Guests at Zulal Wellness Resort are also encouraged to visit the resort’s beach-front walkway and Mangrove Education Centre, a major environmental conservation project to promote scientific understanding and appreciation of nature.

Health and wellness are at the core of Zulal’s identity, ranging from holistic health practices and spa treatments, to interconnected rooms to foster stronger connections with families, to honouring the Qatari culture rooted in the balance and wisdom of nature. Exceptional facilities will set a new standard for health resorts the world over, featuring fully integrated holistic programmes that encompass traditional healing principles alongside state-of-the-art international treatments.

Zulal Wellness Resort is managed by Chiva-Som, a globally acclaimed pioneer in wellness and lifestyle transformation with 26 years’ experience honed at its flagship resort in Hua Hin, Thailand.
