Doha – November 11, 2024: Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) will host its second alumni-run primary care conference on November 29 and 30, 2024, at Le Royal Méridien Doha.
Coordinated by the Division of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at WCM-Q, the two-day event will feature WCM-Q-trained physicians presenting the latest updates in clinical best practices to local family physicians, general practitioners, and primary care doctors.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in dynamic, specialist-led case-based discussions that explore cutting-edge evidence and best practices for managing prevalent adult conditions in primary care. The conference will also include several interactive panels and roundtable discussions.
Key topics will include an integrative session on cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases, focusing on shared risk factors, diagnostic tools, and evidence-based multidisciplinary care to enhance patient outcomes.
Another session will take a multidisciplinary approach to menopause, featuring endocrinologists discussing hormonal changes and personalized treatments, gynecologists addressing reproductive and sexual health, and psychiatrists focusing on mental health issues and interventions.
A session on early diagnosis and screening for cancer will evaluate the risks and benefits of screening, emphasizing effective physician-patient communication. It will also review screening approaches for breast, colon, lung, and prostate cancers, and offer case-based updates.
Participants will also learn about diagnosing and treating hypertension in adults and the elderly, exploring the pathophysiology, diagnostic tools, and personalized treatment plans in line with the latest guidelines.
Additionally, a session will provide clinical pearls on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dementia, life after cancer, and obesity, offering essential insights from neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, and oncology for effective management.
Other topics will include rheumatoid arthritis (RA), type 2 diabetes, thyroid function testing and management, common cardiac complaints, cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease, and the neurological basis of back pain.
Titled 'Updates in Primary Care: Specialist-Led Case-Based Discussions Highlighting the Latest Evidence and Best Clinical Practice - 2024,' the conference is part of WCM-Q's wider effort to leverage alumni expertise for the benefit of Qatar's thriving healthcare sector. The event follows the success of the inaugural alumni-led conference held in 2023
