Doha, September 2025 - Mandarin Oriental is committed to contributing to the communities in which we operate, guided by our Group-wide sustainability mission ‘Act with Responsibility.’ At Mandarin Oriental, Doha, this commitment is reflected in initiatives that combine sustainability with meaningful social impact, reinforcing the hotel’s role as a responsible and engaged member of the Qatari community. Mandarin Oriental, Doha recently concluded a series of three visits in collaboration with Wa’hab Food Bank, engaging 74 colleagues from across the hotel. Together, they prepared and distributed 640 thoughtfully curated meals, each including Chicken Biryani, homemade desserts, fresh fruits, and beverages. Working closely with local suppliers, and with generous contributions from Chef Middle East and Qinwan Dates, the team ensured that every ingredient was sourced responsibly, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to quality, care, and community impact. This initiative builds on Mandarin Oriental, Doha’s strong focus on food waste reduction, a central pillar of its sustainability strategy. The hotel has implemented the Automated Waste Collection System (AWCS), efficiently segregating three waste streams to improve recycling and composting. Additional initiatives include converting used cooking oil into bio-oil and recycling paper, plastic, and tins. To further optimise efficiency, the hotel also utilises Winnow’s AI-powered food waste management technology in select kitchens, enabling precise monitoring of production, portion sizes, and menu planning to minimise avoidable waste. Mandarin Oriental, Doha’s sustainability efforts have been recognised with official certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the leading international body for sustainable tourism standards. This certification highlights the hotel’s commitment to responsible consumption, waste management, and community engagement, while aligning operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Colleagues play a vital role in advancing this commitment. Since 2023, every colleague at Mandarin Oriental, Doha has been entitled to one paid day off annually to participate in volunteering activities. Together, they have already contributed more than 2,000 hours of service year-to-date, supporting community partners and creating meaningful impact. “Partnering with Wa’hab Food Bank has been a truly inspiring experience for our colleagues and for Mandarin Oriental, Doha,” said Thomas Kinsperger, General Manager. “Through initiatives like this, we extend our values beyond the hotel walls, supporting the Qatari community with compassion and making a tangible difference in people’s lives. Our commitment to ‘Act with Responsibility’ continues to guide how we care for our people, our guests, and the wider community.” This collaboration follows previous initiatives with Wa’hab Food Bank, most recently during Ramadan, when the hotel provided special meals to reflect the season’s spirit of sharing and generosity. Expanding this partnership underlines Mandarin Oriental, Doha’s continued dedication to fostering empathy, wellbeing, and sustainability in the heart of the community.
