BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, Chingotto-Galan and Brea-Triay take the top spots. Gemma back at number 1
Rome is a lucky place for Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, but so is Italy. It's been 343 days since the last time 'Chingalan' beat Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia in a Premier Padel tournament: it happened in Genova, and it happened again in Rome, where Fede and Ale had already triumphed in the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel. A year later, the number 2 seeds are still celebrating, on a day that began with the victory of Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay in the women's tournament and the return of the Spanish player to number 1 in the FIP rankings. It was an extraordinary week at the Foro Italico, enhanced by a visit from IOC President Thomas Bach and a total of 33,000 spectators, a 10% increase compared to the 2024 edition.
MEN The decisive breaks in the men's final came in the eighth game of the first set and in the seventh and eleventh games of the second, but there was one point that thrilled the Rome crowd and went viral on social media in a few seconds: the first point of the fifth game of the second set, with an unreal recovery by Chingotto that ended with a shot from outside the door. Chingotto and Galan's title evens the score in this 2024 season dominated by the two best pairs, now both on four titles. But Arturito and Agus, who also left to the applause of the crowd that filled the centre court, will try again. 'I'm very happy to have won another tournament that is very special to me – said Galan, who before 2024 had also won the title in 2022 with Juan Lebron –. We had fun all week, on and off the court. And when we have fun, we manage to give our best'. 'I'm really happy with all the teamwork, and I'm happy to dedicate the victory to my father, because today is Father''s Day in Argentina – added Chingotto –. Thank you, Ale, for believing in me, and thank you to the fans for believing in Chingalan'.
The Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour remains in Europe: the next tournaments – both P2 category – will be played from 22 to 29 June in Valladolid (home of Arturo Coello) and in Bordeaux the following week.
